STRMC Offers Free Educational Outlet
(June 2, 2008) Pleasanton, TX—Daily monitoring of food and sugar intake, exercise and significant lifestyle adjustments, daily medications and constant medical supervision, are all a part of an average diabetic's day-to-day routine.
Without these controlled factors, a diabetic's health is likely to spiral out of control leading to serious illness, limb loss through amputation and even death. In 2005, over 20.8 million of our Americans population was diabetic, and that number continues to climb with each passing year.
South Texas Regional Medical Center (STRMC)'s concern for the health of our local diabetic population has lead to the conception of a free community education seminar.
STRMC partnered with Methodist Healthcare to bring an educator to the community, free of charge, so that our citizens may have the opportunity to learn more about the disease.
The seminar will address non-medicinal methods for controlling diabetics such as nutrition, diet and exercise.
The seminar is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25th at 1 o'clock in the afternoon at the STR Senior Circle Center, 1320 W. Oaklawn. Those wishing to attend may call 830-569-8000 to reserve their seat at the event.
