South Texas Regional Medical Center Announces Leadership Change

JOURDANTON, TX. (April 30, 2009) – Mike Pierce, chief executive officer of South Texas Regional Medical Center,  has resigned his position to pursue other opportunities.  Pierce served as CEO at the hospital since July 2006.

“I am proud of the accomplishments we have made,” said Pierce.  “I believe the hospital team will continue to make incredible strides in healthcare delivery for our communities in the future.”

“We wish Mike success in his future endeavors and appreciate the contributions he made during his time at the hospital,” said Jim Andrus, Chair of STR board of trustees.

 James Resendez will assume the role of interim CEO beginning Monday, May 11.  Jim comes to STRMC from Phoenix, AZ, where he was president and CEO of Arizona Heart Hospital.  Jim, a San Antonio native, has a strong track record in healthcare administration, having served in CEO roles in hospitals in Arizona and Texas. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a master’s in healthcare administration from Trinity University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. A nationwide search for a new chief executive is underway.
