Signs of a Caring: Look to SignCo Graphics
(Jourdanton, TX—November 1, 2009) - What are the signs of a business that cares about their community? Community involvement, generosity and relationship building are all qualities that come to mind. They are also the qualities that best describe SignCo Graphics.
SignCo Graphics is owned and operated by a woman with a dynamic personality, creative mind and caring soul— Cheryl Loeffler. When Cheryl opened the doors of SignCo Graphics in Pleasanton, a little over a year ago, she also opened the doors of her heart to our community.
Signs of caring
She relocated her signage business from Floresville, where she had operated since 1998, to be closer to the family of her then fiancée, Kurt Loeffler. Kurt was battling cancer, a fight not uncommon to his family, as both his sister and father had been afflicted with cancer. Cheryl and Kurt understood the impact that cancer was going to have on their lives. They chose to be closer to the physicians at South Texas Regional Medical Center’s Multi-Specialty Clinic and Kurt’s family to formalize a close-knit support network through his treatment. The duo also possessed a wisdom which enabled them to understand that although cancer was going to be a factor in their lives, they would not allow it to become their sole focus while living.
With that being said, Cheryl wanted to continue to make a living doing what she enjoyed, which was making signs. Her experience with cancer is her source of inspiration to support the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) fight against the devastating disease. One of her first immersions into our community was through the ACS. Cheryl contributed to Atascosa County’s Annual Relay for Life Event in 2009 by donating 500 event t-shirts for all the teams and coordinators. Her generosity and goodwill was displayed proudly on the backs of each participant for the 24 hour event. The couple wed soon after and began enjoying life with Kurt’s cancer in remission.
Soon after, another sign of benevolence from SignCo Graphics was noted as Cheryl signed on to become a 2009-2010 Platinum Partner for South Texas Regional Medical Center’s Healthy Woman Program.
Throughout the past year, Cheryl has acquainted herself with the mission and outreach work that Health Woman performs for the community of Atascosa County and the outlying counties of Wilson, McMullen, Live Oak, La Salle, Frio, Karnes and Medina. Cheryl says, “Before Kurt, cancer was a terrible illness that I knew very little about. Now, I realize that almost every person that I meet has been touched by the disease, and it motivates me to support health programs that teach prevention support those in need like Healthy Woman.”
Looking to the past to build for the future
What began as a business that catered to clients seeking outdoor metal signs has grown over the past decade to now encompass: signs, banners, vehicle graphics, graphic design, window lettering, digital printing, shirts, caps, promotional items and sports decals. When asked where Cheryl envisions herself and her business five years down the road she responds, “Right here, working more closely than ever with clients and heavily focused on the graphic art and design of each finished product.” She continues, “My favorite part of my work is developing relationships with my clients. I value their trust and work each day to show them how important they are to me.”
“It’s written all over the wall”
Today Cheryl and Kurt work together to sustain their signage business in this challenging economy. It’s touching to see that even in times of economic strain; small independently owned businesses are willing to open their hearts and pocketbooks to help support deserving organizations such as South Texas Regional Medical Center’s Healthy Woman. While many are cutting back on what would be considered an unnecessary cost, this business still upholds the principals of give and you shall receive.
Cheryl and Kurt are great examples of the spirit of perseverance and faith. Their good nature and positive attitude enhance our community as does their entrepreneurship. On behalf of South Texas Regional Medical Center’s Healthy Woman program, we thank SignCo Graphics for their support!
