Go Red! Wear on Friday, February 6th to Support National Heart Month

Attention community members! Friday, February 6th is National Go Red Day. South Texas Regional Medical Center (STRMC) invites everyone to start the celebration of National Heart Month through their participation in National Go Red Day.

How can you participate?

Participation is easy! Wear an article of red clothing on Friday to show your support of choices that positively impact the development of research and education aimed at preventing heart disease.

Get your children or grandchildren involved by dressing them in red too. This is a great opportunity to begin teaching them how important it is for their heart to be healthy. You can explain to them that limiting junk food, eating more fruits and vegetables and playing outside are three steps that keep their young hearts “happy and healthy” as they grow.

Fundraising for American Heart Association

STRMC has begun the sale of 200 limited edition red t-shirts in celebration of National Heart Health Month. The red t-shirts cost $10.00 each and 100% of the proceeds will go to the American Heart Association (AHA). Those interested in “Going Red” can stop by the front desk at STRMC and purchase their commemorative t-shirt now.

Children can also have fun contributing to the AHA. Parents can buy Go Red “Croc” shoe charms or red wristbands for youngsters to sport all month long.

Additionally, a custom-made “Tree of Life” will be displayed the entire month of February in the STR lobby. Hung on the limbs of the tree are red leaves with the names of loved ones who have struggled against heart disease. Leaves are on sale for $1.00, and anyone is welcome to purchase a leaf.

Your donation throughout the month helps the American Heart Association protect hearts and lives year-round by allowing them to fund research, education and advocacy programs to fight heart disease.

Free Educational Material

STRMC wants to help you receive the educational tools needed to better inform yourself, students or loved ones. You can log onto www.goredforwomen.org or email April_S_Smith@chs.net to request educational material.

Please join us on Friday and wear red! Purchase your Go Red fundraiser items at the STRMC’s front desk between the hours of 7 am-3pm, Monday through Friday. Go Red!
