Atascosa Youth Go Pink! Volunteer efforts for gala are appreciated

OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEERS!
(Jourdanton, TX)— The Healthy Woman 2008 Go Pink Gala was the talk of town. The food, spirits and entertainment created an enjoyable evening for all in attendance. Behind the scenes was a group of hardworking and talented youth who attended not to be entertained, but as an avenue to give back to the community. Students from both Jourdanton and Pleasanton volunteered to help serve the sit-down dinner for over 380 guests.
Meet the volunteers
Xavier Badillo, son of Freddy and Olivia Badillo, is a 17 year old junior at Jourdanton High School. He is a member of the FCA. Xavier says he volunteers because “It feels good to help people out by serving them.”
Ian Calendra is the son of Rudy and Mary Ortiz. He is a senior at Jourdanton High School and is an active member of FCA, FFA and National Honor Society. Ian enjoys volunteering efforts in his spare time.
Chelsea Cassaday, daughter of Pat and Gina Cassaday, is a 16 year old junior at Pleasanton High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society and says, “Volunteering is a very important aspect of life and a personal joy.”
James Daughtrey, 13 year old son of James and Laurie Daughtrey, is a 7th grade student at Pleasanton Junior High. He is an active member of the 4-H Club.
Morgan Dumas, daughter of Dan and Terri Dumas, is a sophomore at Pleasanton High School. Her extracurricular activities include: volleyball, track, LEAD, FFA, and FCA.
Molly Ellis, daughter of Randy and Sharon Ellis, is a junior at Pleasanton High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Molly says, “I volunteer to help those in need.”
Katie Elmer, daughter of Edward and Laurie Elmer, is a junior at Pleasanton High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, LEAD, basketball and cheerleading squad. Katie views the most rewarding aspect of volunteerism as “the acknowledgement that I helped to make someone else’s life just a little bit better.”
Caleb Gentry, son of Richey and Sherry Gentry, is a junior at Jourdanton High School. He is a member of the FCA and volunteers because he “loves to see people smile.”
Reagan Heffernan, daughter of Scott and Lori Heffernan, is an eighth grader at Pleasanton Junior High. She is an actively participates in volleyball, student council, track, National Honor Society and FFA. She is the youngest female volunteer of the group.
Shelby Heffernan, also daughter of Scott and Lori Heffernan, is a junior at Pleasanton High School. She is a member of volleyball, track, LEAD, FFA, and FCA.
Walker Hines, son of Claire and Joe Hindes, is a 7th grade student at Pleasanton Junior High. He is a member of the FFA and 4-H Club.
Claire Jandt, daughter of Dennis and Renay Jandt, is a junior at Pleasanton High School. She is a member of the track, volleyball and basketball team; as well as LEAD and FFA.
Tyler Koros, son of Jeffery and Missy Koros, a junior at Jourdanton High School. He is a member of FCA.
Hannah Marble, daughter of Julie Marble, is a sophomore at Pleasanton High School. She is a member of FCA, FCCLA, 4-H Club and FFA. She says,”People of this community have done so much for me; it’s only natural to feel compelled to return the favor.”
Gracie Marvic, daughter of Bernie and Alma Marvic, is a senior at Jourdanton High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, FAC and FCCLA.
Paige Phillips is the daughter of Jeff and Karen Phillips. Mother, Karen, is a Healthy Woman Advisory Council Member. Paige is a junior at Pleasanton High School and a member of the National Honor Society. Paige enjoys volunteering because she likes helping her community.
Katie Schuchart is the daughter of Pat and Suzanne Schuchart. Mother, Suzanne, is a Healthy Woman Advisory Council Member. Katie is a junior at Jourdanton High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, FCA, and FCCLA. Katie says, “Serving others not only makes me feel good, but it is a command from the Lord.”
Paige Smith, daughter of Jeff and Sue Ann Smith, is a freshman at Pleasanton High School. She is a member of the volleyball and cross country team, FFA and LEAD.
On behalf of South Texas Regional Medical Center, the Healthy Woman Program and all those who attended the event, thank you sincerely to both the volunteers and their parents for allowing them to participate. Our community is enhanced by these giving and bright children.
