Repeat Success! 2008 Healthy Woman Go Pink Gala well worth the annual wait

(Jourdanton, TX)—South Texas Regional Medical Center’s Healthy Woman Go Pink Gala proved to be a returning success. Hundreds of guests poured into the American Legion Hall on November 6th to partake in what has turned into this program’s premier annual event.

The nighttime mood was set by the harmonious vocals by Ross Hurley. Guests enjoyed sampling a bevy of wines, courtesy of The Shot Glass, as they mingled and paired rich cheese samples before the evening’s opening remarks and door prize hour.

Platinum Partners, Cosmic Creations, Pleasanton Express and Rhinestone Cowgirls, drew names from those in attendance to giveaway for over thirty gifts donated by the event partners. The array of gifts ranged from dental whitening packages, compliments of Brush County Dental, to monogrammed boutique bathrobes from Viva la Diva.

The event’s partners included Gold Partner, Radiology Associates of San Antonio, PA. Silver Partners included: Brush county Dental, Nest Feathers, Sisters Gift Shop & Boutique, Stendebach Photography, The Shot Glass and Virginia Twins Garden Market. Bronze Partners included: A Rey of Flowers, Bohanan’s, Edward Blackmon, M.D., Hurley Funeral Home, Party Rentals, Etc., Security Service Federal Credit Union, Tendercare Learning Center, Thomas Vuong, D.O., and The Good Health Store. Pink Partners included: Bedazzled Day Spa, Claire Hindes and Carla McDaniel Catering, Edward Jones, Odis White; Red crown Coffee, Etc. and Viva la Diva.

Door prize giveaways were followed up by the 2008 Healthy Woman Advisory Council honors. This year’s council member honorees include: Edward Blackmon, Jr., M.D.; Lisa Blair, M.D.; Cindy Carr; Diki Garcia, F.N.P.; Connie Hurley; Melody Langston; Barbara Lewis; JoAnn McFarland; Angie Palafox, M.D.; Karen Phillips; Marie Smith and Suzanne Schuchart.

A significant achievement highlighted during the event was the presentation of the first-ever Communitarian award to Healthy Woman Advisory Council member, Connie Hurley. Hurley was recognized for her dedicated efforts and contribution towards the planning and development of the program’s free health seminars; membership recruitment and overall support of the organization. Hurley’s contribution towards the development of Atascosa County’s medical community is a longstanding accomplishment. Her labors can be witnessed not only with Healthy Woman, but also through as a member of South Texas Regional Medical Center’s Board of Trustees.

As awards and dinner concluded, the year’s feature presenter took the floor. Rosanna Kallay delivered a heartening presentation to guests that emphasized the importance of striving to reach one’s personal dreams through realistic, everyday goal setting. The interactive presentation gave her audience the opportunity to self-examine their natural tendencies and define whether or not they alone may be setting barriers between their everyday reality and future dreams. Kallay’s talk inspired laughter and soul-searching amongst the audience, providing the figurative “icing on the cake” to this already decadent treat.
