STRMC's Rehabilitation Departments Host 10th Annual Rehab Angel Event
The staff at South Texas Regional Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Center in Pleasanton hosted their 10th annual Rehab Angel celebration on Thursday, December 18th. The event, which was held at STRMC’s Senior Circle/Healthy Woman building, provided Christmas joy to 105 very appreciative children from Jourdanton and Poteet. The program is made possible by STRMC employees and patients, businesses, and others who each pick an “angel” from the Christmas tree and buy a gift for a needy child in Atascosa County. The individual then brings the wrapped gift with the child’s name to the STRMC Rehab Center.
Local school children arrived on Thursday at about 11:00 a.m. The students were served a variety of favorite foods and desert prepared and donated by Wal-Mart, Little Caesars, our very own Food and Nutrition Department at the hospital.
Following lunch, the children were welcomed by the director of the Rehabilitation Center, Jon Esmonde, PT. Jon led the children in several popular Christmas Carols and then introduced them to the big guy, Santa Claus himself. Santa was a big hit thanks to Wells Construction’s Roger Wells, who played the famous Christmas icon. Gifts were distributed to all in the hope of helping make this Christmas a little more joyful.
Each year this event gets bigger and better, and that is due in large to the community business such as the Pleasanton Express, Pursch Motors, Price Motors, Dr. Donald Krampetz and staff, Dr. Angie Palafox, Drs. Hatch/McQueen and staff, Dr. Erick Santos and staff, Dr. Chun Tan, and WW Wood who provide donations for gifts and supplies for the event. In addition, the STRMC Hospital employees and the Jourdanton and Poteet school district employees make tremendous contributions to the children and event.
Recognition and appreciation goes to the STR Rehab Staff for all their help and support in making the Rehab Angels celebration what it is today. Special thanks are also in order for Micki Kuenstler of the rehab center, who dedicated a great deal of time and effort into making the event the huge success that it is. We are very fortunate to have such giving people in Atascosa County.
