One 'Texas Size Health Fair' Leaves 600 Texans Healthier

JOURDANTON, TX — STRMC 7th Annual Texas Size Health Fair took place last Thursday, September 25 at South Texas Regional Medical Center (STRMC) grounds in Jourdanton. In the four hours that event lasted, over 600 members of the community were provided with a bevy of free health, medical and educational services.

The lively event offered generous takeaways for each person in attendance including: prostate-specific antigen test for men over 40, cholesterol, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, grip strength, blood sugar, vision screenings, body-fat testing, osteoporosis checks and the opportunity to meet with an STRMC pharmacist and ask questions about their medications or other related drug-interaction questions.

Numerous community resources were available from physicians, area healthcare providers, consumer advocates and groups, social service organizations, insurance and investment companies, volunteer organizations and school districts.

The STRMC Certified Passenger Safety Technicians checked dozens upon dozens of vehicles to ensure proper car seat usage as part of the "Buckle Up Kids" program. Children enjoyed the music, refreshments and the opportunity to spend time with the HEB Buddy and Reddy Teddy.

"Although the coordination of the event was a team effort, chairperson for the event, Jacque Stacy, was a critical component to the successful outcome of the health fair and our thanks go out to her," says Mike Pierce, CEO of STRMC.

Stacy comments of the event by saying, "This year's health fair was a Texas sized success! We thank the many community partners who contributed to this occasion, who are responsible for the improved welfare and health of our citizens."
