South Texas Regional Medical Center's (STRMC) Healthy Woman Program is a free, educational resource for women of this community. The program organizes monthly health and wellness seminars which are open to their members to help enrich and educate the local female population on relevant health topics that are of interest.
Membership is free!
Membership in the program is 100% free. There are no one-time fees, membership dues or any other costs associated with membership.
By registering to become a free member, one will begin to receive private invitations and calendars for upcoming events to be held locally. Membership allows women the opportunity to be invited to meet local physicians, clinical directors and other keynote speakers at the monthly health seminars. It also provides its members with the flexibility to allow them the option to attend or decline each invitation with no obligation.
To register on-line, go to www.strmc.com and click on the Healthy Woman icon. On-line registration takes less than three minutes to complete. Or you can visit STRMC's front desk /reception area to fill out a membership form seven days a week from 7am-7pm.
Calendar of Events
Year-to-date, the STR Healthy Woman Program has hosted the following free seminars:
- Women's Heart Health presented by Dr. Chun Wang Tan, Cardiologist
- Sleep Disorders presented by Trae Gaenzel, Clinical Coordinator for STR's Sleep Center
- Colorectal Cancer Awareness presented by Dr. Ravi Ganeshappa, Gastroenterologist
- New, Advanced Vein Therapy Treatments in Jourdanton presented by Dr. Alan Crowther, Family Practice
In addition, free blood pressure checks, sleep evaluations and vein consultations were offered to members who attended the events. Future events include the "Summer Family Health Series."
Summer Family Health Series Calendar
June Seminar
The Healthy Woman Program has developed a Summer Family Health Series which will kick-off on Thursday, June 26th with the presentation of "You are what you eat!" by Dana Krampetz, D.C. at six o'clock in the evening.
Dr. Krampetz will discuss the current nutritional content of our fruits and vegetables, offer suggestions for improved diet choices and educate the audience on the impact of good nutritional intake in respect to preventative medicine.
July Seminar
July's event is slated for Thursday, July 10th at six o'clock in the evening. The topic will be "The Hot Seat! Successfully addressing sensitive preteen and teen subjects of interest in Atascosa County." Keynote speakers will be Diki Garcia, FNP and Melody Gates, RN.
Both Garcia and Gates will address frequent misconceptions, questions and other health and medically related issues that are of currently of interest amongst Atascosa children. They will provide clinical information and suggested methods for conveying such information to your children in a manner that is easy to understand and age appropriate. In addition, members will learn how to engage their child to feel comfortable initiating discussions about sensitive subjects.
August Seminar
The Summer Series will conclude on August 7th at six o'clock in the evening with a presentation on "Role Reversal and Caring for Our Elderly Parents." Guest speakers will include a panel from Argent Court, Vista Care and The Heights.
Annual Texas-Sized Health Fair
September 25th
The Healthy Woman Program invites everyone in the community to attend STR's Annual Texas Size Health Fair on Thursday, September 25th between the hours of 3pm- 7pm. Free blood pressure checks, glucose screenings, BMI, medication analysis, and more will be offered for free for those in attendance. More information will be made available as the date nears. Annual Go Pink Gala
The long anticipated Healthy Woman Go Pink Gala event is scheduled to return once again on November 6th to the American Legion Hall in Jourdanton. This year's gala theme is "Life is But a Dream," coinciding with the motivational speaker, Rosanna Kallay's uplifting presentation titled, "Living Your Dreams." Ticket sale information will soon follow and be made available through the members of the Healthy Woman Advisory Council.
