It is a fact of life, emergencies occur each day. At South Texas Regional Medical Center, we treat over 15,000 patients per year in our Emergency Department (ED). Our doors are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to be readily available to you in a crisis.

STRMC’s staff undergoes continual education and emergent care training to enhance the effectiveness and care provided for emergent trauma cases. These life saving skills are needed for intervention and treatment for accident victims, traumatic wounds, chest pains, allergic reactions, and more.

Our ED professionals have skillfully demonstrated proper diagnosis and treatment for emergency cases, leading to the successfully redesignation as a Level IV Trauma Center. The department consists of an eleven bed unit, with nine cardiac beds and a three bed trauma room.

 ED also focuses on community outreach programs, teaching injury prevention and early detection for health problems. Annually, the ED staff coordinates seminars for:

n       Safe Riders: Four certified car seat installers test and train parents on proper car seat installation while also providing a free child car seat.

n       Fall Prevention Courses

n       Summer Bicycle Safety

Community Health Fairs provide essential health checks that alert patients to adverse medical conditions when, if properly treated, may be kept under control with lifestyle, diet and/or medication. At health fairs, participants can receive health screenings, education and medication reconciliation by an STRMC Pharmacist.

Know when to visit an Emergency Room:

§    If the health of the individual is in serious jeopardy;

n      There is a serious impairment of bodily functions;

n      There is a serious impairment of a bodily organ;
