JOURDANTON, TX — Managing your and your family's health can be a challenging task. South Texas Regional Medical Center (STRMC) can help. Free health screenings and information will be featured at the STRMC 7th Annual Texas Size Health Fair on Thursday, September 25, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. located at 1905 Hwy. 97 East in Jourdanton.

"Health fairs serve as an important educational tool in helping the participants help themselves," says Mike Pierce, Chief Executive Officer at STRMC.

Health screenings will include: prostate-specific antigen test for men over 40, cholesterol, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, grip strength, blood sugar and vision screenings and body-fat testing. Health fair participants will have the opportunity to meet with an STRMC pharmacist and ask questions about their medications or other related drug-interaction questions.

The Pleasanton Lions Club Mobile Eye Screening Unit will also be available offering free vision and glaucoma screenings. Walgreens will be on hand to offer free osteoporosis screenings. Numerous community resources will be available from physicians, area healthcare providers, consumer advocates and groups, social service organizations, insurance and investment companies, volunteer organizations and school districts.

STRMC Certified Passenger Safety Technicians will be discussing the new "Buckle Up Kids" program. Technicians will provide free installation and education on the proper use of child safety seats.

Free music and refreshments will be offered and HEB Buddy and Reddy Teddy will also be on hand to entertain the kids.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to focus on health promotion and health education for citizens of all ages," Pierce says. "Community events like these are important opportunities to raise awareness and identify those at risk for serious illness."
